Worried about breast ache/shoulder ache

Hi, around Christmas time last year I experienced a dull ache in my right breast at the side, the tissue in that breast is definitely more prominent than the tissue in the left breast anyway however it was also my armpit that felt dull and achy. After a couple of weeks my shoulder blade started to ache on and off through the day every day and also sometimes the ache would go down my arm sometimes feeling what I describe as a cold sensation and also my wrist. I went to the doctor’s multiple times and no one could find any lumps or swelling etc. I can’t feel a lump myself. After this lasted a good couple of months it finally went away (all of the symptoms from breast to shoulder and arm) the doctors and A&E doctors all told me it was probably nerve damage from carrying my then 6 month old around. I was so paranoid it was breast cancer as I know it doesn’t always form a lump.
So after a good fair few months with non of this happening this past 2 weeks the feelings have all come back, my right breast feels tender again and under the armpit feels thicker to me although when I look in the mirror there is no obvious swelling. I have shoulder ache on and off again with it travelling down my arm occasionally. A few weeks ago both my nipples felt so sore one day (nowhere near my period due date) and then that night I got in the bath and they burnt like hell! I noticed they had little red scab/sores on them - this was in both breasts. I’m not sure if that’s even linked to the achy boob or if it could be separate like a thrush symptom. I feel like the doctors will just fob me off but with all these coming back and my boob/under armpit feeling burny I’m just so worried!!!

  • Hello  , I'm so sorry you have been suffering in this way and I'm very sorry it's got you so stressed and worried, though I do totally understand why this would make you so anxious.

I would suggest that you talk to your doctor about this as they are the best people who can put your mind at ease and tell you what's going on. Try not to worry about cancer, it's often not cancer with a lot of things but only your doctor can confirm it for you.

Try not to look anything up. It will make you even more anxious. Definitely talk to your doctor though they will be able to help you with this.

  • I think I’m more anxious and paranoid as I am so worried my little one is going to be without me, that’s a whole nother paranoia! But yes I will be contacting my doctors although I did last time about 4 times even went to A&E twice which isn’t like me at all and I just felt fobbed off, I just wondered if anyone had similar before and what it ended up being

  • I hope someone who's had similar can help to put your mind at ease with this. It's always worth and wise to keep on and get yourself checked out. Better to be safer than sorry. It was going back constantly for over 4 years that got me diagnosed finally, so do keep on at them. You matter, your health matters. We are all here for you during this difficult time.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about these symptoms you have and appreciate the worry that they are causing you.

Unfortunately no one here can say what the matter is and it really is only your GP who can assess you to find out more. If they are unsure or concerned they may suggest referring you to the breast unit but this may not be needed.

Breast changes can occur for so many different reasons and in most cases won't be the result of anything as serious as a cancer. Breast pain is common and on it's own isn't usually linked to cancer but more likely the result of hormones, infection or muscle injury. If there is a rash or redness then it could be a skin infection that needs treating.

Do speak with your doctor when you can and hopefully they can put your mind at ease.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • When was your last mammogram. Maybe request one to put your mind at rest.
