Something to be concerned about?

Hi, I've had a swollen lymph node for around 2 months in my neck, it measured at 2.3cm and has now reduced to 0.7cm after my ultrasound.

I've since had a lymph node in my groin and armpit, the a pit one being largest at around an inch then another one in my supraclavicular region.

I was extremely concerned as I read 75% of all lumps in the supraclavicular region are cancerous.

I had an appointment with my doctor this morning as she said she isn't concerned at all.

But everything I've read states that it's likely to be metastic.

Theyve booked my bloods in 2 weeks time even though I read that any supraclavicular lump needs a 24-48 hour cbc.

All doctors I've seen have said not to be concerned but everything I've looked into says otherwise, including official nhs pdf guidelines.

I've no idea what to make of it and seem to be going in circles so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thankyou

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry that you are going through all this worry about some swollen lymph nodes that you have, but it is reassuring that you have been scanned and seen by doctors and they are not concerned.

I can see from your previous posts that you have had infections and antibiotics, both of which can cause nodes to be swollen. These swollen nodes, called reactive nodes, can take time to return to their previous size.

The information available on the internet is vast and can be quite overwhelming. It can be difficult to navigate and know what information is correct and relates to your situation. It is also important to remember that what is online cannot replace scan results and/or reviews by qualified health professionals.

In two weeks time, you will have your check bloods. Do let them know when you get your results about your concerns and what you have read.

Take care and if you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
