Lump on rib / referral to musculoskeletal clinic

Hi

i was wondering if anyone has been through something similar/can shed some light on this for me as I'm worried sick!

I found a small, painless lump that sits on a rib directly below my boob. I was sent to the breast clinic for an ultrasound where they scanned everything (and all checked out ok thankfully) and even the lump in question. So the doctor that did the ultrasound said the lump is nothing to worry about and looks like cartilage damage. However when I went to see another doctor to get discharged he said it's a nodule and that they may want to check out my bones..

I've just receive a text from the Doctor to say I've been referred to the musculoskeletal clinic and I am absolutely terrified!

anyone else been through this or let me know what this clinic is about?

  • Hi SarahX0x and thanks for posting.

It sounds like you're having a worrying time at the moment.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) Therapy Services are a group of departments that work together to support patients with musculoskeletal conditions, which are diseases and injuries relating to muscles, bones and joints.  They would usually include highly skilled physiotherapists and doctors.

Your first appointment would normally involve a discussion with the doctor or physiotherapist you are seeing.  You would have an examination, which normally involves exposing the areas of the body that have symptoms. Various movements will be observed and often clinical tests are carried out. Other areas of the body are often examined too,  to make sure the symptoms aren’t coming from elsewhere.  The doctor or physiotherapist may suggest a diagnosis or may want you to have further tests.

You have posted in the ask the nurses section, you may get more responses if you post in another section.

I hope this is helpful but please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You might like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Rachel
