Scan worries

I have had a raised CA125 level , I have also had 2 types of ultra scans and a CT scans last Thursday I had an MRI scan as consultant has seen all scan and requested this I have been told not to worry but having all these scans surely they would know if I had ovarian cancer or anything else but I haven't been told anything yet should I be concerned? Waiting on mri results ..

  • Hi

I can't offer any advise as I'm pretty much in same boat. 2 Ultrasound scans Inc TV, raised CA125 had to do a repeat one as well today, CT of chest, abdo and pelvis, hysteroscopy and 2 endometrial biopsies.

The waiting is horrendous but I have a consultation on Thu and hoping they will tell me everything then. I have revieved a letter from MDT with recommendation to have a full abdominal hysterectomy and Bilateral removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes and that they want to do a omental biopsy, but have not been given any explanation yet!

I guess you can take comfort in that they are being thorough and hang on in there till they come forward with info for you.

    Take care.

  • Hi,

wow you are going through even more test !

yes it's good they are being thorough but it's the not knowing and waiting that's the hard thing I also have a feeling I am going to have more tests too..

    tske care xx

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

It is never easy waiting for investigations and the results and I can understand how unsettling it must be for you.

It is not unusual to have several scans as they all provide the consultant with a bit more information before they can say what may be the cause of your raised CA125.

There are different reasons for a raised CA125. A raised CA125 indicates that there is inflammation in the pelvic area. This could be caused by ovarian cysts which are benign (not cancerous) or an infection and in some cases cancer.

Try if you can to take one day at a time. Keep yourself busy to stop your mind from thinking about it all the time.

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then do give us a ring. We are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and our helpline number is Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the best,

    Catherine
