Angiomyolipoma and hysterectomt

Hi, after years of waiting for a hysterectomy iv decided to go private, got a date of 2nd August. Had a ultrasound on saturday that showed i have 3 angiomyolipomas ( 2 in right kidney one in left) they said theyd report to my GP. What will happen from here? Will i still be able to have my hysterectomy on 2nd August? I had back pain which id always presummed was from my gynea issues. Should i tell my gyneacologist now? Or wait to see what Gp says?

  • Hello Sambacat and thanks for posting,

I can understand you asking us but I'm afraid I can't answer your questions very well.

I am sure you have been told that angiomyolipomas are benign (noncancerous) tumours arising from blood vessels and fat. I think their size has a bearing on how they are managed with some being monitored and others requiring treatment. Treatment can vary and if needed, might be surgery or might involve a procedure to destroy the tumour for example with a procedure that blocks off their blood supply (embolisation).

The GP may want to refer you to the local urology department for a more specialist opinion as they usually look after people with kidney tumours. I don't know if this will mean your hysterectomy is put on hold. For now, the best person to ask about this is the gynaecologist so do get in touch with them for their input and also ask your GP what happens next.

I am sorry I can't be any more specific. Please do give us a call if you want to talk about anything. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around from 9-5, weekdays.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
