Ruse in PSA

I am having hormone therapy for prostate cancer. My last PSA test showed a rise in PSA from 2.1 to 2.76 is this anything to be concerned about ?  Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

It is not unusual for PSA levels to fluctuate occasionally and we don't always know why. This slight increase in your levels may be nothing to be worried about. Your doctors will continue to monitor your levels and if there is a concern they will discuss this with you.

It may be  also worth knowing that some things can have an effect on PSA levels, for example taking vigorous exercise or ejaculating in the 48 hours before the PSA blood  test can make the levels rise.

I have provided here a link to the PSA test which may be useful here.

Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
