Had ultra sound

Hi,been experiencing heavy peroods 20 days with large blood clots ,no let up i was diagnosed with fibroids three years ago .

My belly constantly bloated i hardly eat anything and im bloated had sensations in the belly also  went to the doctor asked for a ca125 ,two weeks later hadnt heard anything so went to the GP .

i was told the bloods i had full bloods too ,came back no action ,

Then on the tuesday got a missed call from the GP so decided to go in ,i was told by receptionist there was a marker and my doctor was on call ,i was told few days earlier that my bloods came back normal .

Went home as was told my doctor would call she did ,told me the ca125 was higjh but could  be fibroids or enyrometreosis  already have fibroids ,dont have other symptoms but all the symptoms of ovarian .

She said that ovarian needed to be ruled out ,two week referal .to gyne,two days later gyne rang up to book me for an ultra sound .

The tech suggested when i was there an transvaginal .i refused as it was painful last  time i had one .

So she carried on wirh the ultra didnt take  long and i couldnt see rhe screen she told me nothing .i dont know if she found anything or not .

So now what ? i wasnt told how long for the results  

Part of me wishes they have found something so i can have a full hysterectomy as ive also suffered with dismorhea for 25 years .and these fibroids are painful heavy bleeds i bleed through my clothes ,cant hold a job down 

Does anyone know how long i wait for the results and ca

    Hi,  unfortunately NHS sonographer are not allowed to discuss any findings with you.

    Usually if anything is seen of concern, the scan result will be sent to the GP within a couple of days.

    They wouldn't usually offer an MRI routinely as they are very expensive, if you need further assessment you may be offered a hysteroscopy or possibly a CT. You could ask your GP for an MRI though it won't hurt to ask.

    I'm afraid we are unable to tell anyone what the matter may be. There can however can be many reasons for  heavy periods and you can read about this here. 

    The CA125 is a protein found in blood. If the level is raised, this indicates that there is some sort of inflammation in the pelvic area. But it cannot tell the doctor exactly what is causing the inflammation. So it is not specific for ovarian cancer. Other conditions can cause this level to rise such as ovarian cysts, and fibroids. 

    It usually takes 2 or 3 weeks for scan results to come through. Do let the gynaecologist know about your recent symptoms. It's up to them to decide if an MRI scan is necessary.. They may consider doing further tests over time if this is needed. It's often a process of elimination to find out the cause of someone's symptoms.
