Ca125 levels

Hi,

I hope someone can help please.  My mum got diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.  Her ca125 levels were 2400 when she first got diagnosed and they have gone down to 15.  On her last appointment they had rose to 27, the nurse said that levels can fluctuate.

I was wondering what makes levels fluctuate?

  • This might be a good question to ask the nurses if you don't hear from anyone you could maybe post it in ask the nurses .

  • Hello Ann and thanks for your post

I'm not sure we fully understand why CA125 levels can fluctuate. For those undergoing ovarian cancer treatment, CA125 levels may fluctuate based on treatment response, with lower levels indicating the treatment is working., CA125 can also fluctuate because of benign or unrelated conditions in individuals post-menopause, CA-125 levels may be higher due to uterine fibroids, endometriosis, or ovarian cysts.

The normal CA125 level is 35 so your mum's level is still within normal limits.

I hope this is of some use.Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
