Worried about lymphoma…scared to make Dr appointment.

Hello, I'm a 23yr old female & I'm worried I'm experiencing symptoms of lymphoma.

Over the past year or so I have struggled with really bad night sweats, there has been times where I've had to change my clothes during the night & unable to sleep where I originally slept because it was damp. The past 2/3 months I've had extremely itchy skin, I've broken the skin and I'm absolutely covered in bruises. To the point where my partner is corncerned it's not quite normal. I didn't really think much of it until today, I saw a video online of a man who recently had a lymphoma diagnosis and he said the only symptoms he has was itchy skin and night sweats. Now I'm worried.

One of the symptoms I don't have is a lump, I'm not really sure how to check but as I can't see anything visble I'm thinking I don't have one.

i struggle with anxiety and I'm worried about booking an appointment I'll just feel like I've wasted their time as in my mind I'm presuming if their is no lump, I'm okay?.

am I doing the right thing in booking an appointment? I'm just worried that I've overthought to much but I can say the itching is driving me absolutely insane to the point where my legs feel like they're actually burning

  • Hello Lc124, welcome! I think it's definitely worth getting your symptoms checked out by your GP if they are causing discomfort. Hopefully they are nothing serious but, if you're anything like me, your mind won't be at rest until you have seen someone about them. You are not at all wasting your GP's time - it's what they are there for. In the meantime, take care xx

  • Hello there

I am sorry to hear you suffer with anxiety and so can appreciate how these symptoms must be playing on your mind.

No one here can say what these night sweats or itching may be caused by so it is best to arrange an appointment with your GP to talk things through. You won't be wasting their time and they are in the best position to assess you and sort out some tests if needed to find out more.

Most of the time symptoms are caused by something other than a cancer but when they aren't going away or worsening it is best to get them checked out. Night sweats and itching can be the result of many different things other than lymphoma so try not to let your mind run away with itself for now.

See your doctor when you can and I hope these symptoms settle for you soon.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hi LC, sorry to hear you're going through a hard time.

for some context - my name is Sean, I'm 31 and was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma at 29.

so please correct me if I'm wrong - but I'm guessing as you haven't visited GP, you've been looking up symptoms of lymphoma on Google and have assigned all of them to yourself right? (I'm not chastising, I've been there). - my question is - if you hadn't been on to Google and seen those symptoms related to lymphoma, would those issues be concerning you in your daily life?

So I'm not sure how you've ended up at the conclusion of lymphoma without a swollen lymph node. Swollen nodes are a HUGE indicator of lymphoma, one of the main ones (alongside weight loss - have you lost a lot of weight lately?)

Please get off of Google websites as they are driving you mad (I've been there). Book an appointment to discuss what's going on with your GP, and remember to LISTEN to what they tell you - they are the experts, not Dr.Google

    all the best
