Biopsy results over the phone?

Hi, I was looking for some reassurance/help.

Has anyone been told thier biopsy results over the phone and a treatment plan including surgery? Or have you been given a treatment plan over the phone rather than face to face? I was waiting for a face to face appointment, only to be told that the doctor now wants it to be a telephone consultation which is making me feel very anxious considering I have a number of questions I want to ask and I would much prefer a face to face appointment.

I have a U3 Thyroid which is hard to touch, visible and alongside it I have a terrible cough and breathlessness. I am really concerned and I'll be honest the team at the hospital are extremely rude. The lump is 3.7cm.

  • Hi Sim112 and thanks for posting.

It sounds like you're having a worrying time at the moment.

People can be given their results over the phone, and have a treatment plan discussion.  I know you mentioned that you would prefer a face to face appointment, you could try calling the clinic to explain this.

If your appointment needs to stay as a telephone appointment, you can still ask your questions, and get the information you need.  It can be tricky remembering everything you want to ask in either a face to face or telephone appointment, and it may sound obvious, but some people find writing questions down really useful.

You mentioned that you have a terrible cough and breathlessness.  I don't know if this is something you have had for a while or if it has developed recently.  If it is something new, please get in touch with your GP as it may be something, like an infection, which needs assessing and they will be able to do this.

You have posted in the ask the nurses section of the site, you may find you get more responses from other members if you post in another section too.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Rachel
