Freaking out

Hi everybody, I'm new to the group.

I have recently had a CT scan following chest pains which o thought was linked to the heart, the cardiologist gave my heart the all clear but ordered a second scan after a small lesion was spotted.

the second CT scan is showing a calcisfied heterogeneous tumour on the lower right lobe of the lung which they suspect could be a signatory fibrous pleural tumour.

I met with the repository doctor  yesterday who talked me though the ct scan, he advised a SFT is extremely rare and has never seen one before. The mass sugests it's benign according to the doctor as it's round with no spikes and ordered a biopsy to be sure.

depsite this I'm still freaking out and petrified, I suppose my question is would a doctor advise if they thought it was malignant if they thought that were the case or would they say it looks benign to put a patients mind at ease before a biopsy confirms.

realise this is difficult to answer but I'm my mind is working overload. I haven't slept for 2 weeks in fear.

  • Hi from what I've seen on here I would say he would be honest with you and wouldn't deliberately mislead you ,if there are any concerns it seems that they like to prepare you for bad news so they would be straight with you ,that's not to say that they can be 100% certain until the biopsy results are in but I'd feel assured if it were me .

  • Thank you for taking the time to respond Jenny! That's exactly what my wife has said. I know I'm just think worst case scenarios and there were positives to take from the doctors opinion.

I can honestly say I've never been so scared in my life.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are currently having some tests done which can be worrying.

The forum is unable to diagnose anyone and really it is only the biopsy that can confirm what this lesion is.

Waiting and not knowing is never easy so do try and do the things you know will distract your thoughts from this situation until you have all the facts.

From what you say the doctor is quietly confident that this isn't cancer from the features seen on the scan/s. However they have decided to carry out a biopsy just to be certain, which can only be positive.

I hope you know more very soon

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Thank you for taking the time to respond Naomi and thanks for the opinion.

Hospital have managed to squeeze me in quite quickly so have my biopsy on Monday. It's both scary but relieving to know I will have some clarity very soon.
