Letrozole Tablets

I had breast cancer and have been in remission for 2 years not, I used to take Letrozole and it caused the crown on my head and my fringe to thin really badly, since being off the tablet my hair has never grown back on top, I have tried shampoos for hair thinning and also seen a doctor, who gave me blood tests, but my results came back normal, I have now got to live with my hair really thin on top now which is a real shame, as I used to have thick hair but not anymore.

  • Hi Maz and thanks for posting,

It sounds like you are having a difficult time at the moment.

After they have had hormone treatment, some people do find that it takes a long time for hair to return to how it was before treatment.  Other people find that it never goes back to how it was.  This can be difficult to live with and affect how people feel about themselves.

I know you said that you had seen your GP and your blood tests had come back as normal, but you could also ask them for a referral to a specialist in hair loss.  This could be a dermatologist (doctor who specialises in skin problems) or you can see a trichologist (people who specialise in hair loss problems but are not medically trained) privately.  You can find out more information about this on the Institute of Trichologists website.

Some people also use camouflage techniques to help, such as coloured sprays, semi permanent make-up and hair restoration techniques.

There is some information in this leaflet from Breast Cancer Now which you may find helpful. It gives more details of the camouflage techniques I mentioned, places to get support , and also includes suppliers of headwear, wigs and eyelashes.

I hope this is helpful, but please do get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Rachel
