Moviprep Problem

This is terrible. I was a quarter way through the first dose in prep for my colonoscopy tomorrow and someone in the house unwittingly threw the rest out. That leaves me with a 250ml cup full left for the morning instead of the full dose, which I suspect would be a waste of time. I've contacted the out of hours service and am hoping they can sort me out, still waiting on a call back. What can I do here? Waiting for this appoitnment has been so stressful, I can't bear to have it cancelled or postponed. Is there any chance the hospital would take me if I can't get a full second dose? Thanks

  • Oh no whophd - that was bad luck and definitely bad timing that they threw the rest out and you no longer have a full dose for the morning. I think you did the right thing in contacting the out of hours service and I hope they will ring you back soon with advice on what to do. I hope that you manage to get the full dose sorted on time as I can understand why you would not want to have your appointment cancelled or postponed because of this little blip.

I am not sure myself whether the hospital would take you - it is best to follow exactly the instructions they have given you so as not to be disappointed but hopefully when the out of hours doctor rings you back, they will be able to help you get more Moviprep or tell you where to go. I am not sure at what time your colonoscopy is tomorrow but hopefully you can have it all sorted before.

Our nurses may not respond to you straight away but if you would like to speak to them first thing tomorrow morning, there is a free helpline you can ring on 0808 800 4040. It is open from 9am until 5pm Monday to Friday.

Everything crossed you get hold of the Moviprep on time and that you get to have your colonoscopy tomorrow and it all goes well!

  • I found the full dose more than cleared me out! I hope what you have will be enough. My recent colonoscopy was a ct scan with an injection that makes you think you're peeing yourself! The scan showed cysts on my overies so the bowel being super clean wasn't a great problem. . If you have only had a quarter of today's dose the duty dr may suggest you have tomorrow's dose  tonight saving some for the morning.
If you have a later appointment tomorrow perhaps you could get another dose from the pharmacy first thing. I hope it all turns out ok for you.
    take care

  • The ooh doctor couldn't help and I think by the time the chemists opens it will be to late.  I'm going to take what u have left and just go to the appointment.  Shifts point I'm only padding water anyway.  There's nothing else.  I'm so stressed I can't sleep

  • Hello there

I am sorry not to get in touch sooner.

I do hope you were able to speak to someone last night to advise you unfortunately there would have been little else you could have done so late in the day.

It is possible without carrying out the full bowel prep that the team will still attempt the colonoscopy although it may have to be stopped if the bowel isn't clear.

If you weren't able to get any more bowel prep do speak with the hospital when you can today and see what they have to say.

    Best wishes

  • I have just returned from the procedure. I went ahead with it and they said my bowel prep was fantastic. Obviously I didn't say anything as the staff were lovely, and I don't recommend stinting on the prep but accidents happen and I was lucky. Or I ate the right food as well :D

THey took a couple of samples for biopsy but reassured me that they hadn't found anything to worry about. A possibility of microscopic colitis perhaps. We will see. I do feel somewhat bloated though. But glad to have endured that. I didn't have sedation, and to be honest it's pretty uncomfortable in places like very bad trapped wind.

Much love and thanks to the team at the Hospital. Absolutely above and beyond IMO. Couldn't ask for better. Thanks for everyone here's support
