Too worried about lymph node?

I'm 23, I've had a swollen lymph node since December of last year.
I just was feeling my neck and checked a lump. Booked GP appointment - confirmed lymph node.
Blood test was done - calcium was a little high and lymphocytes was high.
GP said to check after couple of weeks, went again to see GP because I wasn't happy (been 2 months) and background history of head and neck cancer with my dad when I was born.
GP said will book an ultrasound.
2 months later did an ultrasound but all normal the repeated blood test my MPV is high and all normal.
but why is it that my lymph node is still there after 5 months.
I feel stupid to go to my GP because it seems like all is normal?
Am I just over stressing about it. Sometimes it feels more noticeable than others. But the fact that it's there it's worrying me.

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your concerns. if it continues to worry you then do get it checked out again by your GP.

Most swollen lymph nodes are due to infection and return to normal after a couple of weeks when the infection clears up, but in some cases, they can remain slightly raised. As your tests were all normal and as it hasn't got any bigger then it will be unlikely to be anything as serious as cancer.

Try not to overthink it if you can but if it continues to cause you concern then do get it checked out again for your own reassurance.

    All the best,

    Catherine
