Brown discharge stress

Heyy!

I'm 24 and pretty healthy. Definitely not pregnant (had sex but not never had penetrative sex) Usually my periods are very painful but quite regular. Alot of my friends feel I possibly have endometriosis but gp has not confirmed this.

last month my period did not come. Instrad I got brown discharge looking stringy and clotty. It did not smell and I did get come abdominal cramps. This is all unusual and has not happened before.

Fast-forward a few weeks and the brown discharge has come back. Again not smelling and getting cramps which somtimes feel like period cramps.

Ihave done some googling (always a bad idea)! And obviously stressed over what it is. obviously warnings of ovian cysts, endometriosis and even cancer come up.

I have just moved house which was super stressful, been struggling with my MH a bit and have a graduate assessment day to prepare for. Wandering if that could be the cause of it?

I'm a massive overthinker esp over my health so I'm worried even though I'm sure it's real isticly nothing to serious.

Would it be best to see GP to discuss this??

  • Hi!

Sorry you are going through this and are worried.

Stress can affect your cycles to point where you stop menstruating or get very heavy periods. It sounds like you are under a lot of stress.

A brown discharge without smell or other symptoms such as itching is very unlikely to be an infection.

It may be just thst the stress has reduced your period to just spotting which would cause brownish discharge.

Best to go see your GP and ask for swabs to be done to check for infection. You are almost of age for cervical screening so they may be able to do it. May be worth doing a blood test to check your hormones. Issues such as endometriosis and polycistic ovarian syndrome can cause hormonal imbalance and issues with periods.

Best of luck and try not worrying too much

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling anxious about the brown discharge. This may just be related to change in hormones and if it does continue then do make an appoinment with your GP so they can examine you and hopefully put your mind at rest.

Periods do change throughout our life time and at your age it will usually have a reasonable explaination far less serious then cancer.

I would stay away from google which is so general and usually does more harm then good.

Try not to over think it for now but if it does continue then do make an appointment to discuss it with your GP. You could request to see a female doctor if one was available.

    Take care,

    Catherine
