Hysterectomy & Histology Results....

Hi, I had a total abdominal Hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy on the 25/4. Having had 2 C Sect' some 20 years ago, the recovery feels similar but worse being 20 years older and organs removed, rather than a beautiful baby! My Gynae Cons' advised this procedure as I had had a heavy bleed (after stopping periods for a year), on HRT after having a biopsy which showed Atypica Hyperplasia Endmometriol (abnormal cells-not cancerous-yet but can change quickly..). I had an Ultrasound scan, MRI and CT scan which only showed my faithful Fibroid! So.. now awaiitng histology.. I never got to meet or chat with my surgeon after or before surgery to find out anything but her comments on my paperwork stated "remarkable".. So 2.5 weeks later after the usual Friday doctor's meeting, I get a call to come in on Monday to discuss results, how I feel etc.. I immediately (and very dramatically) breakdown.. is it cancer, do I need chemo etc.. (I lost both my mother very young and mother in law after having cared for them, so yes it worries me in probably ways that it doesn't need to but I can't help that). The nurse stated that my treatment was completed and no chemo, but could not say more (is she not allowed to say more-surely if nothing untoward then could she not tell me as she previously told me my CT scan was clear over the telephone) apart from, see you on Monday..should I worry, is this normal, does it mean yes we found something but all dealt with, more treatment.. I'm so scared for Monday, thank you for any feedback and apologies for being such a drama queen amongst many who have bigger worries x

  • Hello CATEKRUNCH,

I wanted to wish you the best of luck for Monday - I can imagine you are feeling really stressed at the moment about your appointment on Monday but try not to worry too much if you can as it doesn't mean there is necessarily anything concerning but they may not have been allowed to tell you all the details on the phone.

I just wanted to let you know that our nurses won't be back online until Monday so they may not be able to reply to you before you have your appointment - I am not sure at what time you are meeting them but our nurse helpline is open from 9am on Monday to 5pm so feel free to give them a call if you want before your appointment on this free number 0808 800 4040.

Everything crossed for you for Monday - I hope it all goes well!

    Best wishes,

  • Hello there

Thanks for posting. I am sorry we were unable to get back in touch any sooner but hope by now you have spoken with your consultant already today and have the results.

I can't begin to imagine what has been running through your mind over the weekend but I expect it has dragged on. It is never easy having to wait and not knowing what the outcome will be.

Even if we had been in touch sooner I doubt we could say much more to you. In situations like this the only person who can give you your results and explain what they mean is your doctor.

I hope today went well but do get back in touch if needed or you want to, our number is 0808 800 4040 9-5 mon-fri.

    Best wishes

    Naomi

  • Hi, thank you for posting and leaving a very kind message. I had my appt today and was told that Cancer was found in the endometrial wall (stage1) but ALL removed and ALL clear, no further treatment aaper from the usual 5 year check up.. So for any ladies out there wondering why they get called in for results or if cancer is found, it's a big worry but not always negative...
