Vulvar and perineal biopsy

I have to have vulvar and perineal biopsy's taken. He said mapping biopsy's he did say he would put me to sleep but my asthma hasn't been too good and anesthetic will make it worse. Has anyone had this done awake? Is it manageable? Also what kind of pain did peolle have  after?

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

Others may come forward with their experiences of having a vulva biopsy, but how people feel pain and discomfort can be quite individual.

An anaesthetist would review you before this procedure and assess your suitability for a general anaesthetic, but do mention your concerns about your asthma to the team.

Here is Cancer Research UK's information on vaginal biopsy.

Take care and if you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.
