Hi, I'm new to this forum and came here to see if anyone has heard about or tried fasting prior to radiotherapy and if so, how they went about it. It seems there is ongoing research in this area, but I can't get anyone on medical team to give me any sort of opinion on it. I think the theory is that fasting before chemo or rt makes the treatment more effective and less damaging to healthy cells because the non-cancerous cells become stronger as they go into 'survival mode' - which cancer cells cannot do. Very non-technical way to explain it!
ive read research that says intermittent fasting has been shown to be as effective as aromatase inhibitors at preventing recurrence, which is pretty impressive in itself. But my question really is: how could this work for radiotherapy, since it's a daily event? Would it be good to fast for a day or two before starting the course (it's only nine days)? Would it be better not to eat immediately before morning rt? Or some other combination?
I'd be grateful to hear anyone's experience or advice. Thank you.
