Lump under armpit and fatigue

Hi,

I have been struggling with depression and extreme fatigue, but recently I have also had a scan on my liver that has shown something irregular, along with high levels of liver enzymes in my blood. I am awaiting further tests, and last week I found a lump about the size of a grape under my right armpit.

Plucking up the courage to contact the GP again, but I am scared. I feel sick, and I'm thinking worse case scenario. I don't want to be a hypercondriact and waste people's time.

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Never think that you are wasting your GP's time that is what they are there for. No one can diagnose you on the forum but there may be many different reasons, far less serious than cancer,  that may explain your symptoms and how you are feeling.

Swollen lymph nodes are very common and are generally a sign that your body is fighting an infection. In the meantime do talk to your GP about the lump under your arm and your feelings of depression and fatigue.  Hopefully, you will know more when you have further tests.

Do make sure that you are getting enough sleep each night and try and limit your time on the computer if you tend to spend a long time on it. Trying to get some fresh air each day may also be helpful. The NHS have some tips on managing tiredness which you may find helpful to look at here

If you feel that it would be helpful to chat this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a ring. We are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and our helpline number is Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Hi,

I contacted the doctors, and have had blood tests that have come back abnormal. I've a face to face appointment in two days. The small lump is still there. I'm hoping it's swollen glands. X
