Breast surgery next week.

Hi all. Thank you for reading this.

So, 22 years ago I was given breast implants following mastectomy. They've never been replaced or removed in that time and have caused great discomfort for years. Finally getting them removed next week and whilst glad about that, anxious as to how I'll feel afterwards. We have a love/hate relationship with each other, and they're not very pretty anymore, but I'm still fearful as to how I'll feel after. Does anyone have any experience or advice please. Many thanks.

  • Hi there

You have posted on the 'ask the nurses' section of the forum so may find you get more replies if you post on a different topic area as well as here.

I think it is fair to say that people experience a range of different emotions following the surgical removal of breasts (real or implants).

I can only assume after your initial mastectomy and reconstruction 22 years ago that you must have gone through a similar process then, and that may be similar or different this time around.

It often takes time for people to adjust to the changes that have happened in their body and this is very normal. I do hope people pop on here to share their stories with you but failing that you may wish to contact Breast Cancer Now here who may be able to put you in touch with someone who may have been through something similar.

I hope all goes well for you but do get back in touch if needed.

    All the best

    Take care

    Naomi
