Transvaginal scan

Hi all I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this question but I can't find any information anywhere and I'm really quite worried.

I had a tvs scan and ultra sound done on Tuesday and was told I would get my results in 2weeks but recieved a call from the doctors just over 24hrs later to say my scans were 'borderline' and they have arranged a telephone appointment to discuss after the bank holiday and I should have a smear test done soon. I am 25 and have yet had a smear test due to being on my period when these were booked. I had the scan done sue to back pain and very irregular periods starting 8 months ago. The receptionist couldn't give me anymore information as to what the borderline part means to what they were looking for.

Has anyone had this happen before and if so what was your outcome?

TIA

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry you are worried about your scan results but I don't know how helpful we can be as we are not involved in your care.

I do not know exactly what they mean by borderline, but it could mean that they were not able to make a clear assessment that it was definitely a normal or abnormal picture.

This might mean you need further investigation to find out what is happening as these symptoms can happen for many reasons and most are not as serious as cancer. The NHS  has some information about irregular periods which you can see on their website here.

Unfortunately until they call and speak to you, no one is going to be able to say what might be going on. Although you have asked for other peoples outcomes with borderline scans they will have their own experiences and could cause you unnecessary anxiety.

Take care and I hope you get a phone call from the doctor soon.

    Sarah.
