So hungry

My treatment finished 7 days ago, I still have a lot of side effects which are painful.  I have a lot of saliva and spit constantly throughout the day and night. Is there anything I can do to help with this.

Also I have a tube fitted which I use for everything. I am so hungry and would love to eat something but my mouth is to painful.  When will I be able to eat again.

  • Hello Lyn, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you are feeling rough post treatment for cancer. It can take a little while for things to improve afterwards, but they will.

I wonder if you have some painkillers to take, if not do get some over the counter medications or if you become concerned do contact your specialist nurse (CNS) or your hospital treatment centre helpline. Do also let them know about the excess saliva as sometimes medication can be prescribed for this too.  They would want to know if you aren't feeling well.

Here is Cancer Research UK information on radiotherapy side affects.

This link is focused on coping with diet problems.

Take care Lyn, and I hope you start to feel better soon. If you get concerned over the bank holiday do call 111 or your hospitals out of hours number. .

If you want to talk things through (I appreciate this may be difficult) then do call our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday, not bank holidays.

    Sarah.
