CA125 test

I have just had this test and my results were classed as high the norm is 0- 35ml mine is 45 ml does that look bad ?

  • Hello Binny1976 and thanks for posting,

The CA125 test can be higher than the normal range for a number of reasons and not only cancer. This is why, by itself, it isn't considered to be a particularly sensitive test when it comes to picking up ovarian cancer. GPs often ask for it to see if an ultrasound test is needed.  CA125 is more useful if ultrasound test results show something because both results are put together to work out what is going on and what needs to happen next.

A reading of 45 is outside of what is considered to be normal but isn't especially high, and it might not have anything to do with cancer. When you have the chance do talk to your doctor about this result, they know the context so are in the best position to explain what it could mean.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

Please do give us a ring if you want us to talk anything over, our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here 9 till 5, weekdays but not Bank Holidays.

    Wishing you the best,

  • Hi

Mine is 141 I've been referred to gynae.

But I have been told by GP and other people that it could be related to other benign inflammatory causes, so I'm remaining optimistic until I'm told otherwise.

    Take care
