Post Chemotherapy

To whom it may concern, I completed three cycles of chemotherapy for MIBC, three weeks ago.

I have declined the RC due to complications for previous treatment for prostate cancer (2011), radiotherapy.

I have been informed there could be extra complications due to the radiotherapy, which could result in two stomas! also, other complications!

They are kindly going to give me radiology surveillance to ensure it does not metasise, and if so, apply chemotherapy or immunotherapy.

My question is, would it be o.k. to have a drink of guinness, say, 4x 440 ml per week maximum.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

The best people to speak to is the team who have been looking after you, maybe a specialist nurse who knows your case. But what I can say is it is advised that you do not exceed the government recommended 14 units a week. Here is information on alcohol from the NHS.  The Guinness cans contain about 2 units per can.

Here is a link with more information about cancer and alcohol from our website.

Take care and if you want to talk anything through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Hi Sarah, many thanks for your advice.

    Regards, Bryan.
