Radiotherapy

Hi all, so on Wednesday I start 15 days of radiotherapy after a simple right mastectomy & 23 lymph node dissection in February 2023 from having triple negative breast cancer and 1 lymph node positive in September 2022.

this is preventative treatment to prevent it coming back but my question is ..

how will I feel ?

im quite anxious about it to be honest I know it's only around 4 mins for the treatment each day but is it as evasive like Chemotherapy ??

many thanks

  • Hello Shellys and thanks for posting,

Everyone is different, but I think it is fair to say that most people having treatment for breast cancer find radiotherapy easier going than chemotherapy.

However, radiotherapy can still have side effects although, to begin with you might feel ok. You have probably read about the potential side effects already, but if not take a look at our website by clicking here.

I think tiredness and sore skin are probably the most common side effects and these often come on gradually so you may not feel too bad to start off with.

I hope others come along and share their experiences.

I think the anticipation can be worse than the real things sometimes in life. Take it slowly, one step at a time. I hope all goes smoothly.

Please give us a call if you want to talk about anything, our number is freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around 9 to 5, weekdays.

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia
