Scared

Hi everyone,

how can I calm down. I'm having to wait for a colonoscopy ( two more weeks to go) on going change in bowel habits, achy lower pain. Had a ct scan. Was told all looked ok but couldn't get a clear pic of sigmoid colon. When checking on my NHS app, dr has put several small lymph nodes found. Now feeling jittery, upsetting all my family with worry. Any calming advice? Many thanks

  • Hi Sparkle22 and thanks for posting.

I'm sorry to hear you are having a worrying time at the moment.

It can be hard when you are waiting for tests and investigations, and we can imagine all sorts of outcomes, which only make us worry more.

You may find it helpful to look at the NHS website Every Mind Matters, this has ideas to help stop those thoughts that keep us awake at night.  You might like to look at their section on managing anxiety.

You said that the doctor had put that they had seen several small lymph nodes in their report.  Lymph nodes can become enlarged for lots of reasons, the main one being infection.  They can remain enlarged for weeks, or even months after an infection has been present.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Rachel

  • Thankyou so much for your reply, I will look at what you suggest.
