Testicular ultrasound

Hi,

I had my urgent referral ultrasound today for a lump on my right testicle. The sonographer said that they couldn't see anything sinister and that it was most likely a sperm granuloma. I did mention that I had my vasectomy 5 years ago. My Dr felt my lump 2 days ago at my appointment and said it was hard and clearly visible but the sonographer asked me to show her where the lump was during the ultrasound. I've experienced quite a lot of testicular pain and swelling over the last month and don't feel like the ultrasound gave me any real answers. Will the doctor call me to discuss my ultrasound results in the coming weeks? My wife wants me to book a private ultrasound just to confirm what the sonographer had said. The lump is very hard at the base of my right testicle and the dull ache is very uncomfortable, especially when sitting down. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Sorry to ramble on!

  • I'm with your wife on this I would encourage you to get a private ultrasound even if just for peace of mind I think it will be money well spent .

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

You have posted on the ask the nurses section of cancer chat so you may get more reply's from forum users on a different thread. Do remember though that whilst people may have been through something similar to you the outcomes could vary from your own.

I appreciate it can be a worry noticing new symptoms which is why further tests are often needed to give some answers. I'm sorry that this ultrasound hasn't given you the reassurance you were hoping for and suggest you speak to your doctor about this.

An ultrasound is the standard test to check out the testicles and usually will pick up any unusual features or lumps that are concerning.

Lumps and bumps in the testicles most of the time won't be the result of something as serious as cancer as you can see here but do talk this through again with you GP to see if they can put your mind at ease, or whether they wish to arrange further tests.

Some people do choose to pay privately to have tests done and whilst this may give them peace of mind as a form of second opinion, this shouldn't be necessary if you have already had the ultrasound on the NHS. However it is a decision only you can make.

    I hope this helps.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hi Jenny,

thanks for taking the time to reply. Appreciate the response.

  • Hi Naomi,

thanks for taking the time to reply.

im am hoping that my Doctor will call to discuss the ultrasound and results.
I am able to manage the discomfort with anti inflammatories but don't want to continue this long term, so I guess if I haven't heard back within a week for the ultrasound then o should contact him and discuss further.

    appreciate the response.

    many thanks

    chris.
