Tender Armpit, Unknown Breast Lump

Hi, I hope you can help. I am currently going through tests at the breast clinic to work out what tue lump in my left breast is. I have had an ultrasound, biopsy and MRI. They want to repeat the biopsy but believe it to be benign and possible inflammatory changes. However, I have just noticed my armpit next to the affected breast is tender whilst putting on deodorant. I cannot feel an obvious lump but it is certainly tender. Do I need to inform the breast clinic or doctor of this change. Or do I wait for my next biopsy appointment to come through?

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry but I can't really tell you what to do. You might just want to leave it and see how it goes because you will be seen again soon.  Tenderness and pain is not usually a sign of cancer. I wonder if you are a bit sore after having the scans and biopsy done.

If you are very worried then do contact the clinic and let them know, no one will mind you calling and they can tell you if it is okay to leave it until you are seen again.

Waiting for the results of tests and investigations can be difficult so I hope you know more about your situation soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi Caroline,

Thank you for getting back to me. I think I'll wait. I did have the biopsy over a month ago so I don't think it is related but I'll see how I get on.

    Thanks
