CT scan results

I had a CT scan over two weeks ago; I was referred by my GP.

If cancer is diagnosed would the results go to my GP or would the hospital contact me directly?

  • Hello Nick01 and thank you for your post,

The results of your CT scan will go back to the doctor that ordered them.

The results of X-rays and scans are done by a radiologist, this is a clinical doctor.  If something is seen that could suggest cancer or anything else then you will usually be seen by the specific specialist team that deals with the part of the body giving concern. An appointment will be sent to you.

You can call your GP practice to see if the results have come back and to make a GP appointment to discuss them.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
