Hi Jessjj and thanks for posting.
It can be worrying when you are called for an appointment after any investigation. Results are often given in a face to face appointment, and it does not necessarily mean that you are going to be told you have cancer.
You may have had biopsies taken, or polyps removed during the sigmoidoscopy. The endoscopist would have let you know about this at the time, and the consultant will talk about the results from these during your appointment. There may also be other things that the consultant wants to discuss with you.
Try not to worry too much, and hopefully you have your appointment and your results very soon.
Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Take care,
Rachel
Thank you, yeah I'm really worried as I've had a colonoscopy before and my results were just sent to my GP. So I'm just confused as to why they need to see me face to face. Xx
Hi,
I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy back in August and then got a call a few months later for me to go to hospital a week later and see them face to face.
It turned out that I just had internal haemorrhoids and the point of the appointment was to decide if I need further investigations incase there is something else that's wrong. They decided from my symptoms that they wouldn't do further investigations and offered to do the banding treatment for my haemorrhoids.
I hope everything will turn out okay for you
