  • Hello and thank you for your post,

    It is always hard when you are given the decision to make and you don't know which way to go. I am afraid that it is difficult for me to be able to advise you without being involved in your care.

    Breast Cancer Now responded to some research published in the New England Journal about radiotherapy for early breast cancer saying;

    “We welcome research that adds to our understanding of how women can receive the best possible treatment and care for breast cancer. These findings suggest patients who were aged 65 or over with certain low-risk types of the disease and didn’t receive radiotherapy alongside surgery and hormone therapy, had no greater risk of the cancer spreading elsewhere in their body, or of dying, than the women who did receive this treatment. However, they had a small increased risk of the disease returning in the same place."

    Have a read where the article came from here

    We also have some information on radiotherapy which you might find helpful to read here

    If you haven't had a chance to chat this through with your breast care nurse then do talk it through with them. You could also get a second opinion but you may have to pay for it. We have some information on our website about how you go about getting a second opinion which you can see here

    You have posted in 'ask the nurses' but if you post on another thread or you create your own then you may hear from other members of the forum.

    You are of course more then welcome to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses. We are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040

    All the best,

    Catherine
