Any advice or anything please

Hello everyone 

so just wondering is anyone has had this happen, back in 2021 I had my smear test and a polyp was found then I had results I was hpv postive and had cin 1 grade cells, so I had treatment and the polyp was removed which was tested and also had the cin cells on, was told I need yearly smear, so had smear in 2022 it was negative but the hpv postive remained and went to my smear today yesterday to be told I have a condition called Ectropion of cervix, which explains the slight spotting I have after sexual activity with my partner and the strong lower stomach pain I sometimes get also, I don't understand how Ive suddenly got this condition when I've never had any sign before, and slightly worried to what happened if I'm hpv postive for the 3rd year running, and to top it off the nurse said there 8 week wait for smear results, any help or ease my mind would be great, I have this going on and just found out my folic acid level is to low so is my vitamin d levels so it all seams to be going on at the moment for me unfortunately

    I am sorry to hear about all the different things that have been happening to you.

    Cervical ectropion is a common condition which often women don't know that they have got. It happens when the cells from the cervical canal grow onto the outside of the cervix. It is not linked to cancer so try not to let it worry you. The charity Jo's Trust has more information about this condition here

    The HPV (Human Papilloma virus) is a very common virus with 80% of the population who are sexually active being affected at some stage in their life. It does sometimes take a while to clear this virus from your body. Not smoking can help as for some reason this makes it harder for the virus to clear. I can understand that it is frustrating when the virus takes a while to clear but do remember that we have a good screening programme that will carry on monitoring you until it has gone.

    I am sorry to hear that there is an 8 week delay for you to get your screening results back but the most important thing is that you are being monitored.

    Low folic acid and vitamin D can be easily corrected by taking some supplements but do talk this through with your GP.

    Eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables may also help. The NHS have produced some information called EatWell which you may find helpful to look at here

    thank you for your reply, I was just worrying about the new condition I suddenly have, I understand many women have it without knowing etc, I'm currently on yearly smears due to postive cin cells, so this smear it was only picked up on with me having this, my worry is what if for the 3rs im still hpv postive and also having this cervix ectropon also I have noticed that now I do at times have spotting after sexual activity with my partner and a strong real low abdomen pain that don't last long this isn't always though, Iam a non smoker anyway and the doctors have dealt with my low vitamin levels with medication which I'm currently on now for 4 months 

    also will I need further treatment regarding this new condition do you know please, I did notice on this recent smear I still bleed a bit the nurse had to change pots due to this and bled on off for 7 hours after which also hasn't happened before

    Please try not to worry too much about this if you can. As my colleague Catherine has said cervical ectropion are common and harmless and have nothing to do with HPV, abnormal cells or cancer.

    Because the cells in the birth canal are fragile that have come to the outside of the cervix these can cause spotting and discharge. These often bleed during sexual intercourse, or when a cervical swab or screening test is taken.

    Treatment will be offered for an ectropion in some cases especially if it is causing symptom, you can read about this on Jo's trust website here.

    I hope you get your results back soon and everything will be okay. Do talk to your own doctor or practice nurse about any concerns you have whilst waiting.
