Appointment made before results

Hi, my sister had breast screening and she got recalled and had a biopsy done and mammogram.

She was due to go back to the breast screening clinic and they called the night before to cancel as her results weren't back. They only give results on a wedsnesday, so they asked her to attend next Wednesday, she saud she couldnt because she has a very important appointment for my disabled son who she's caring for because I have advanced breast cancer and my oncology appointment is also that day. They saud week after which would make it two weeks but she says she can't wait that long cause I will probably be having treatment, she askedfir a phone appointment instead, they saud they epuid have a meeting in Tuesday like they always do and disscuss phone appointment,

Anyway the next thing she knows inher GP app is the radography consultants report with her findings which were very worrying and suspicious but on the day she saw her sayd she wasnt overly concerned but as it's her first msmmogram they biopsy everything, so it wasn't what she was led to believe.

This report went in the system before getting her biopsy results, so as you can imagine she's scared stiff, then someone rang her today to make the results appointment for this Friday instead and to go face to face .

She told them what had been said so they said leave it with me I will ring the testing centre and see if u can get your results sooner. Will get back to her.

They never got back to her but then received a patient portal appointment for the breast surgeon specialist ! For next Friday ...

Angry and scared isn't the word! It's now weekend and she can't get hold of them.

Why is she being referred to breast surgeon before getting her biopsy results ?

She saud she's just got to assume she's got breast cancer

  • Hi Spiritlove, sorry to hear about your sister. I was given my results by the breast surgeon too. Went for investigation and biopsy and then straight to breast surgeon for results. I hope your sister's results are not sinister. The good thing about going straight to the breast surgery team is that any issues are dealt with as soon as possible. I hope also that your treatment is going well xxx

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are going through treatment yourself and I can understand that this must be an added worry waiting to find out about your sister's results.

I can't say why your sister is seeing the surgeon for her results but there are so many breast conditions that women can get. She may be seeing the surgeon as she was unable to attend the appointment on Wednesday. I know that she said that she wanted to have a telephone appointment but it can be so much easier to have a face to face appointment.

Try if you can not to think the worst if you possibly can.

If you or your sister want to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses then you are very welcome to do so.

We are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

    Catherine
