Positive fob of 28 .

My doctor is referring me for a colonoscopy, I'm worried because they found blood in my poo.
does this mean I have cancer or could it be something else? My fob test came back at 28 is this very high? My name is David .

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

We do not use the FOB test in the UK anymore now, it had been replaced since 2019 with the FIT test. Any result over 10, in someone with symptoms, means that they will be referred to their local bowel screening unit for further assessment. The FIT test identifies microscopic particles of blood. A positive FIT test can be caused by haemorrhoids  (piles), bowel polyps, or bowel cancer.  A colonoscopy looks into the bowel to see if there is a problem that needs treatment.

I hope that helps and that your investigations go smoothly,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
