Using flex menstrual disc after Lletz

I can't believe I am discussing this on here but needing someone who might understand.

I went for what I expected to be a colposcopy on Thursday (6 days ago), only received text from hospital about smear results on the Tuesday! Anyway, they immediately said they were doing a Lletz (I didnt feel I got a say in the matter).  I have just started bleeding (bright red, not period like) after just having discharge last 5 days.  I usually use a flex menstrual disc for my periods and am struggling with the whole pads thing.  I am due to have a waxing tomorrow and wondered if I was careful do you think I could use a disc just for this appt?  Is the reasoning for not because of infection (in which case it will be a new sterilised disc and only in for a short while) or because it can harm the wound?  My husband thinks I am making a big fuss over nothing but having my waxing done is important to me and making me feel normal.

Any help much appreciated

  • Dear JennyEm,

I am sorry you have these worries about your waxing appointment, but using anything for bleeding that you need to put inside your cervix will not help the healing that is taking place.

It might be an idea to chat with the beautician doing the waxing and explain your situation so she understands how you are feeling.

Here is information about the lletz procedure with aftercare advice.

If the bleeding gets worse or you are further concerned please speak to your doctor.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
