Hi,
I am posting for some advice with regards to my grandmother. She is almost 89 years old and has been suffering with diverticular disease for over 20 years. Her symptoms began to worsen over the last year. She has had a fit score of over 400 and a CT scan that has shown thickening of the colon and enlarged lymph nodes in the abdomen.
We had a telephone appointment with a consultant who sounded very concerned and said that if her fit score was under 10 they would put all the findings and her symptoms down to her diverticular disease but said he is concerned and ordered an urgent colonoscopy which is next week but today we have had a letter from another consultant within the colorectal department saying that she has thickening of the colon which is probably due to diverticular disease and becaue of her positive result she will have a colonoscopy. Obviously this letter doesn't sound as serious as the appointment did last week so we are a little confused as we were preparing for the worst.
Would her score of over 400 and the thickening of the colon and enlarged lymph nodes indicate cancer? She passes blood in her stool, has abdnominal pain and has lost weight recently. Any adivce would be great.
Thanks
