Hi, I have just been told my calprotectin is 250 and fit test 17.7, doctor thinks it's irritable bowel disease, any else had readings like this? Very scared and can't sleep, thanks.

Hello Tigger2 and thanks for posting,
Having tests is often a worry, but do be guided by your doctor. However it might be worth checking whether the doctor is thinking about irritable bowel disease or inflammatory bowel disease. I say this because calprotectin levels can be raised in inflammatory bowel disease which can also cause bleeding.
A FIT test looks for hidden bleeding in poo and if the GP has requested one, a result over 10 usually needs to be looked into to find the cause, but there can be a number of reasons and inflammatory bowel disease is one of them. The NHS website explains more about inflammatory bowel disease here.
I am not sure if anyone else will post with similar readings, but even if they do it might not shed much light on your own situation. Hopefully you will find out more soon. Do try and talk to your doctor, they know all about you and might be able to put some of your fears to rest.
Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. Our number is 0808 800 4040 and we are around from 9-5 Monday to Friday.
Best wishes,
Julia
Thanks Julia, I always think the worst, now getting a pain in left side ribs when eating, could it be my pancreas? Thank for your advice, regards, from Julia! .
Hello Tigger2 and thanks for getting back to us,
I'm afraid I don't know what is causing this left sided rib pain when you eat and no one here on Cancer Chat can make a medical assessment.
Our standard advice is always to tell your doctor know about new and persistent symptoms to get them properly assessed. Aside from cancer there are usually a number of far less serious possible explanations so keep an open mind and try not to worry.
I hope everything gets sorted out for you soon.
Best wishes,
Julia
Thanks Julia.
