Pain in arm after radiotherapy

Hi

I have had my first session of radiotherapy after a lumpectomy today and I already have shooting pains in my breast and pain in my left arm (bicep)
I am not sure if the arm pain is from the radiotherapy or from being too tense whilst in the position with arms behind my head.

I wasn't expecting discomfort so soon! Also can't believe how emotional I felt after the treatment on my way home.

Can anyone else relate or is this all in my head?

  • Hello Monika and thanks for posting

It is good to see lots of people have been chatting with you and giving their advice over the weekend and I hope today's radiotherapy goes well for you.

Everyone is different as you say but treatment can take its toll on both the mind and the body so be kind and look after yourself.

It is likely to have been the arm positioning, deep breathing and stress of the first treatment that resulted in the pain you had the same day so I do hope that today is better for you.

Do let your team know how you are feeling and the pain you experienced so they can try and help improve things for you during the remainder of your sessions.

    Wishing you all the best

    Take care

    Naomi
