Highly suspicious ultrasound

Hi,

found a lump in breast, went to GP 25/3 and was told breast tissue thickening but could have referral for peace of mind. Attended breast clinic 11/4 1st physical examination I had to actually point out the lump and was reassured it was breast tissue, I was declined mammogram for being under 40 but they offered ultrasound - still not concerned. During ultrasound the Dr stopped and completed needle biopsy there and then stating highly suspicious lump was present, her tone and face spoke a thousand words! She insterted the pin and sent straight for mamagram.  I will be back on Tueday 18/4. I am so confused as there was talks of MDT meetings, operations, radiotherapy and 5 year medications etc but no1 would say YES it's cancer although their body language did. I'm 37 relatively fit, no medications, within my BMI no family history and nothing but a 1.6mm lump and the impression I got from my appointment. Has anyone experienced this and had a benign biopsy or is it likely cancer - thank you

  • Hello Elrio12 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn about what happened at your breast clinic appointment and can understand how unsettling this must be for you.

I am not sure if anyone else will come along and post. This is because I don't think people who turn out to have benign tumours always linger on forums for very long although they might use them when under investigation.

Whatever was said to you at the clinic,  the biopsy results will be needed to complete the picture, so for now I am not sure that you will be able to find out much more. And tempting though it is to look for answers online, they are seldom to be found there and searching often takes you round in circles without being much the wiser.

If you can, try and distract yourself from thinking about what might be the matter and have a plan to fill your time until Tuesday when you should know more.

If you want to talk to us our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays 9-5.

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia

  • Elric

    sorry to find you here

I will be honest with you about my experiences

that's a mirror image of my 1 st breast clinic appointment they told me suspicious a week later it was confirmed ,

however that was last July I'm fully back to normal fizzy pop bottle life

it's a lot to take in at first they cannot tell you until the biopsy is back but I think they can see certain characteristics beforehand as they are the experts .and im sure they sort of prepare you

I hope that by some chance yours comes back ok

good luck stay here for support I'm here to help or chat lovely

    love Lara (im 48 )

  • Elrio

im sane fit healthy don't drink much don't smoke healthy no family history on diagnosis the shock was unbelievable cause I never had felt so fig and well In my life my lump was 1.5 very small very treatable I couldn't even feel a lump I went as I felt a heaviness and was paranoid as my best friend was diagnosed 5 months earlier .

    love Lara ️

  • Thank you.

I think I am in shock/denial but know deep down.
I just pray it hasn't spread and it's early enough to be removed.

im pleased you're feeling well again, long may that continue ️xx

  • Thank you.

I think I know deep down but I'm in so much shock and denial. I am trying to keep busy but everytime I sit down I'm crying, petrified I'm going to die :(  x

I was the same I was in denial I couldn't believe what I heard at my first appointment it was like a bad dream

one hood thing it's got to be early it's tiny if it does end up being a diagnosis

I didn't have chemo just radiotherapy and take the tablet for 5 years mine was very early stages grade 1 to 2 .caught very early in it's tracks I didn't have a aggressive type thankfully

through my journey I worked from home lived my life as normal no way for one day I would give up

these days it's not a death sentence it's highly treatable .

    love Lara ️

  • Hi Elrio, like Lara, I can only tell you my experience and yours may be very different and I do hope it is. I was 63 when I found a lump last year, unfit and overweight. I had a mammogram and ultrasound. The radiologist took biopsies because what she saw looked suspicious. Then I saw a doctor who also said "highly suspicious". So I wasn't surprised to have BC diagnosed a couple of weeks later. The tumour was 35mm, grade 3 (very active/fast growing), and had spread to my lymph nodes. I had 7 cycles of chemo, which was not nearly as bad as I'd expected, as well as targeted therapy for my subtype (HER2 positive) and had a lumpectomy and lymph node clearance 3 weeks ago. Chemo was 100% sucessful in killing off all the cancer. I feel hopeful that if you should get a diagnosis it will be very treatable and you will bounce back in no time. Do let us know how you get on and we're all here for you if you have any questions or just want to chat. God bless. Amy xx

  • Sorry to hear this. I had a similar awful experience with a sonographer at my ultrasound. Scanned the swollen lymph node in my neck, looked at his computer and said 'ahh yes, we know what this is, would you like me to tell you?'

when I insisted no, I'd like to wait for my specialist to sit down with me and talk me through any results, he said 'that's fine, I won't say what it is.. I can't say it's good news and I'd love to be able to tell you it's nothing, but il leave that up to your consultant to discuss with you'
