Unhappy with implant

Hi

I've recently (3 wks) had skin and nipple sparing mastectomy and teardrop implant - had lumpectomy and node removal in Nov, another slice taken in Jan, but they were still finding pre-cancerous cells. I've now had drains out and things starting to settle but the implant is 'huge'!  I discussed with consultant that I'm happy to have implant but wanted to keep it smaller as I'm carrying a bit of weight currently (and I carry on my belly and boobs) but that comment seemed to be missed.  I now feel I have a massive and very solid (in comparison) right boob compared with a droopy (I'm 56 and have had 3 kids) smaller left boob.

I've always hated their size anyway and this has now just been compounded.

I wanted to ask if anyone had had this type of implant before and know whether things settle ie. drop a little and perhaps reduce in size??  I won't be able to cope with the way things are currently - aside from the difference/imbalance between the 2, I cannot cope with the size.  I will have to have it replaced and then have something done to the left to match.

Any advice?

Thankyou

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I'm sorry to hear about your current concerns after breast surgery.

Just to say that if you want to post this question to other cancerchat users for their feedback, then you would have to post it in the general section, and not just the Ask The Nurses section. Hope this makes sense.

Another charity called Breast Cancer Now also has an online members forum which may be helpful,

Most surgery involving plastic surgery type techniques will take time to settle, and for swelling to reduce. Do ask your hospital breast care team/hospital specialist nurse about your situation, and see what they say in terms of time frame, and what the likely appearance long term might be.

    Wishing you the best,

    Vanda

  • Sk

sorry I can't help with implant

But  if it was me I would call the breast nurse and explain you are not happy and want something done about it

if not book a private clinic to get it the way you want don't settle for anything less lovely

    good luck love Lara ️
