Scc forehead cancer

My dad has scc forehead skin cancer. It has formed into an open ulcer wound which is really deep, we have been changing it daily and he is on red flag surgery list, luckily it has not spread to anywhere else in the body. Was looking to know how long my dad will have to wait for this surgery as its really upsetting him and he's so down with it all.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I know waiting any length of time to be treated is very stressful for patients and their families. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you how long your dad will have to wait for surgery as there will be some regional variations in different NHS Trusts..

However, hospitals do their best to meet the cancer waiting targets, but many are finding this difficult to achieve. This could be due to staff shortages and the effect the covid -19 pandemic still has on the NHS.  Your dad may want to contact the hospital's local Health Care Trust  to see if they can give him an update on how long he might have to wait for his surgery.

In the meantime, all I can really suggest is that your dad talks his concerns about his SCC getting bigger on his forehead through with his GP. They will assess him and they may be able to chase up his appointment.

Give us a ring if you would like to talk any of this over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
