Radiotherapy rash

I had 5 sessions of radiotherapy starting on 6th March, I've had a rash under my bust for about 10days it's gradually got worse .I went back to the hospital 2 days ago and they said I needed fungal cream ,been using but it's getting worse and now I've got a rash where my lymph nodes were removed today. Is this normal to be getting worse after 4 weeks ?

  • Hi there, yes I have been told side effects start 2 weeks after initial radiotherapy & some even months after skin reddens ,itchy, might break down intense heat. Still waiting to get started. Planning scan.ct.will be 4 months from surgery. Hope it improves for you.

  • Thankyou for your reply, I was just a bit worried that its got worse with the cream and now the new rash too ,and I'm 4 weeks after radiotherapy. Don't worry about radiotherapy as I was really worried and that was the easy bit .let me no how you get on .How many sessions of radiotherapy are you having .? Sue

  • Hi sue, I have last week spoken with oncologist.  The plan is for 5 days radiotherapy to whole of left breast. Planning scan in May date to be confirmed.  Then eventually treatment. I continue with Letrazole  for 5 years. Hope your well & rash now gone. Let me know. Pip

  • My rash got worse before it got better.  Took almost a week to heal.   Everyone is different so not two cases are the same.  Hope you get some relief soon xxx

  • You will be fine with the radiotherapy, the worst bit Is waiting ,they were always running late .my rash has got worse ,I went see the macmillan nurse at the hospital and she prescribed anti fungal cream but the rash has got worse so going ring the docs tomorrow and see what they say also started with a red rash just below my scar under armpit where lymph nodes were removed

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry you are having problems with the skin under your breast since finishing radiotherapy.

Here is information on skin side effects and radiotherapy from the UK charity Breast Cancer Now.

I can see from this thread that you are going to contact your GP about this rash. I think letting someone know, like your doctor or specialist nurse (CNS), will mean they can assess you and decide if anything else is needed other than the fungal cream.

Take care and hopefully this will improve for you soon.

    Sarah.

  • [@SD70]‍ Hi Sue

Im nearly 12 months since having radiotherapy and I still get a rash sometimes under my boob and under my Lymph node removal scar, it does come and go, but it doesnt bother me or hurt. Try using Aveeno, its really good. I still use it now. Hope it gets better soon. Alison x
