Ca19_9

Is this a blood test a good indicator for pancreatic cancer ?

I had a scan 2 years ago that was clear, had a 2nd last year but the body and tail couldn't be seen but still having niggles....pinching pain and stools floating.
Understandably it's really hard to see a gp so I was going to do a private blood test.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

You asked about a private blood test for the 19-9 marker. The 19-9 levels blood test result can be elevated in diseases, (non cancer and cancer) of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, lung, and urology conditions. Therefore, it is not that useful as a stand alone blood test, except when monitoring already diagnosed conditions.

If you are worrying about symptoms, then you do need to discuss this with your GP who can advise you further.

    Best wishes,
