Red Spots and Bladder Cancer

A very dear friend has a history of Bladder Cancer, he has just come back from his check-up and they have told him that they have found Red Spots near the scar site of the previous Cancer.  The hospital has said they don't know what it is, and he is to go back in 6 months.

I hate to say it, but the hospital he attends has a pretty poor reputation and to be honest I don't really trust them.  They botched an operation on him for a different (non-cancer) problem a couple of years ago, then didn't follow it up, and now the problem can't be fixed!  I have suggested he speaks to his GP in a few days to see what she thinks.  He is obviously very worried.

I understand that other things can cause red spots, but is this something, he should be concerned about and pressing further or is 6 months an OK waiting time?

Many thanks for any advice

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, as nurses, we can't really give a medical opinion on your friend's situation.

The professional that did the cystoscopy will have noted the spots appearance. It is likely that had they thought that the area looked suspicious, then biopsies would have been taken. Spots on a bladder wall can be small areas of inflammation from previous investigations and treatments. A doctor would not do unnecessary further trauma to the bladder wall without good reason, as this causes further scar tissue to form.  They would have decided on a 6 month follow up based on their clinical assessment of the area.

    I hope that this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
