Post menopausal bleeding

Hi

I had a bilateral oophorectomy (not sure if it's spelt right) in 2014. No period/bleeding since. I was put on HRT almost immediately, sandrena gel and utrogestan pill. I've had no problems for the past 9 years but 4 days ago started bleeding. Saw the gp immediately and they have referred me on an urgent 2 week gynea appointment. I'm expecting the worse as my mom had uterine/ ovarian cancer and my Nan had uterine cancer. I had my ovaries removed as I didn't want cancer . The GP can't understand why they didn't take my womb either. I had a negative cervical smear a few months back. I also have a raging head ache behind 1 eye that I can't shift as well. It started when the bleeding started .Anyway now I'm waiting for an appointment. I'm right royally cheesed off.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the bleeding you have and the history of cancer in your family. I can appreciate this is a difficult time for you.

I'm afraid that until you have been seen by the gynaecologist and had some scans and tests done will you know for certain what is going on. There can be many reasons for bleeding and not all of them are to do with cancer.

If the headache is still carrying on then do mention it to your GP.  Headaches happen for a variety of reasons and are rarely anything due to something serious.

I hope you have some support and hear from the hospital soon. In the meantime you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
