Meningeal disease

Hi. I was diagnosed with Meningeal disease last Friday and was told I have weeks to months to live.

I am going to have full brain radiotherapy for 5 days to try and prolong my life.

I don't have many symptoms apart from I can't walk without a zimmer frame or use my legs.

I feel like I can't accept this diagnosis without further investigation.

Is there anyone on here experiencing/has experienced the same?

Thank you x

  • Hello

I am so sorry to hear about everything that is happening to you. It is possible that you may not be able to find anyone on here who is in exactly the same situation as you. But the community on here can be extremely supportive, even if they are not going through exactly what you are.

From your post, I wasn't sure if you had been allocated a specialist nurse who you could contact to talk things through. If you haven't, ask about this when you next go to the hospital. It may help to talk things through with your GP to see if they can offer you any additional support.

You mentioned that you cannot accept this diagnosis without further investigation.  You may find speaking to your current consultant about what has happened, asking them to explain fully why they have come to this conclusion and if there are any further tests you could have that might help.  You could also think about getting a second opinion, we have information about how to do this on our website here

Although, I am afraid to say that getting one does not always change the situation.

If you think it might help you can call our nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040 between 9am and 5Pm Monday to friday to talk things through

    Take care

    Martin
