Abdominal Pain & Symptoms - Seeking Advice and Experiences

At the end of January, I visited my doctor due to severe pain in the lower left side of my abdomen, along with a constant urge to urinate. Additionally, I experienced extreme fatigue, breathlessness, and weakness when attempting to perform simple tasks. My doctor prescribed antibiotics and instructed me to return within 24 hours if there was no improvement.

By the time I secured another appointment, the pain had shifted. During a self-examination, I discovered a lump in my abdomen, which I inadvertently moved while pressing on it. This resulted in sharp, stabbing pain that later transitioned into a dull ache across my lower abdomen, still predominantly on the left side. The constant urge to defecate accompanied this pain. I also experienced discomfort in my lower back and occasional pain radiating down my legs, particularly while walking or sitting on hard surfaces. This pain would dissipate as abruptly as it appeared after resting for a while.

I was subsequently referred to a cancer gynecologist at the hospital, who ordered a CT scan and MRI. I recently received a phone call from the doctor's secretary, who informed me that they had not detected any ovarian cancer. However, they advised me to follow up with my primary care physician and repeat the CA125 blood test in three months.

I have scheduled an appointment with my doctor this Thursday.

My worry is if they haven't found any form of ovarian cancer why are they requesting another blood test in 3 momths time?

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to hear about the symptoms you had but glad that you were told no cancer was found on the CT and MRI scans you had.

I don't know why you need to have your CA125 test again but your GP will be able to tell you that. Also, you might want to ask about the results of the scans you had as this may reveal why you need the test again.
