Vacuum Assisted Biopsy Pain

I have seen (read) previous posts about this but I'm now 3 weeks from a second VAB. The first was 3 weeks before that. I have 2 scars about 1cm apart.
The pain I get is a slight stabbing pain at the biopsy site, but it can happen when I'm sitting watching TV or laying in bed not moving.
Is this normal? I last saw someone at the clinic a week ago when I was told I have DCIS. And those results rather took my mind off asking if this was normal.

TIA

  • Hi Jude,  I am sorry to hear you are still having discomfort but it is really early days from a healing point of view.  I also have DCIS and have had 3 biopsies and 2 excisions over the last 7 months. By now it is difficult to tell what's what but I put random pains down to nerve regrowth.  May not be right but I do know healing internally can take longer than is apparent from the surface wound.  I am guessing that you have more procedures ahead of you so wish you all the best.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Yes, it can take a number of weeks for pain and soreness to settle down, from having had a breast biopsy procedure. Sometimes tiny nerve endings can be affected, and this can cause stabbing type pain for a while. Take some paracetamol to help when it flares up. It may help to wear a bra in bed for a while, to support the breast when you sleep.

I hope that it resolves soon for you.

    Wishing you the best,

    Vanda
