Calf pain and lumps

HELP please

I have been ignoring a aching pain on my calf for well over a year now. There has been so much else to deal with I put it down to a strain or something.

Anyway over the last few months the ache has gone from ache to constant pain which is getting worse. It is incredibly uncomfortable and at its worst at night time when it frequently wakes me up then stops me getting back to sleep. The last few weeks have been agony.

I have been massaging it today to see if that gave me any relief and I found about six lumps  the skin. My entire calf hurts from foot to knee constantly. Pain level 7/10 day time 9/10 night time.

I am worried can anyone shed any light on this? I am petrified as cancer has occurred quite a lot in my family and I have Bell's palsy and ME so I have a very compromised immune system.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, as nurses, we are not able to tell you what the matter might be. There are usually several different medical explanations for the same symptoms. Most of the time, it is not due to anything serious such as cancer. We would suggest that you make an appointment to see your GP and give them the history that you have explained here. They can assess you and advise further. They may want to do some tests to find out more, and may consider physiotherapy intervention to be useful.

I hope that you get this health concern sorted out soon,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
