colposcopy results

Hi I have been to my colposcopy 4 weeks ago.  The last one before that said everything is clearing of hpv and the results came back from that time that no abnormal cells were found.

This time when i went they said that it looks good and clear. But the results in the letter is a copy/paste of a letter i had from last year at the very beginning and its says now that abnormal cells were found :( . it is possible to go back to square 1. I phoned all numbers and nobody is answering...

  • Hello denisa29 and thanks for posting,

I'm afraid I don't think I will be able to clarify your results, but hopefully you will be able to get through to someone soon ideally at the colposcopy clinic who can access your records to explain things.

It is possible for someone to have one type of HPV which clears up and then pick up another type of HPV.  I am not sure if you have had a negative HPV result and then a positive one, but this can happen.

I expect the colposcopy result letters use some standard phrases or paragraphs to explain things. But I can't tell you if your most recent letter is a duplicate of the letter you had last year saying that abnormal cells were found, or, if it is a true report from your most recent examination.

Abnormal cells on the cervix can go back to normal when HPV goes away, but this might take a while. It could be that things looked a bit better or no worse at the colposcopy examination, but the biopsy results show some abnormal cells are still there. This doesn't necessarily mean you are back at square one, but I'm afraid I can't confirm this for you and you need to talk to the colposcopy clinic to ask them.

Try not to let this get you down. I think it is best to wait until you have the chance to speak to someone at the clinic.

Please give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia
